Josh Reflexive post

        For a second I put myself in the shoes of the Kayapo children and try to imagine what it would be like to grow up in the jungle without social media and electronics that we have in our culture. I would get bored without all of the media I would need sports to help occupy my time and keep me out of trouble. But what if all the sports that I grew up playing didn’t even exist or were unknown to the people in my culture. I have been playing football since I was a young kid and i can’t imagine what I would be doing without it it’s the motivation that pushes me to succeed.

Now the Kayapo have some sports in their culture. Soccer or Futbol is the most popular sport in their country and they have been exposed to the sport in my research I see many pictures of the kids playing soccer outside with a ball made of mud and sticks and a goal made out of tree branches with no net. I can’t relate to them playing soccer so that isn't reflexive of me but it is reflexive for their culture because it relates to the other people in the country.

    I can relate to these kids because sometimes sports might be all that they have or they might be trying to use the sport that they are good at to help them get a good education and follow their dreams just like I am by playing college football. Most of the families of these kids probably never went to college or got an education this might be there chance to turn that around.
       In conclusion the point I am trying to get across is that sports in any culture can help people

succeed, get education and stay healthy. Especially in the case of the Kayapo People Sports have

helped the culture prosper and stay alive.

Josh,
Thank you for your reflexive comment. Remember you will be presenting for 5 minutes, so once you plan with your group, you might need to think about what you will be presenting on -- talking about your post and your reflexive comment. You also need to come to class. These things add up, and I do take attendance. I want you to do well, but you need to do the work just like everyone else in class. Thanks

One more thing, you need to make your font, post, color, everything uniform with the rest of the group members. That white stripe in there does not look that good.

Geographic Post

We are known as the Kayapo. You might recognize us by our name, or even by our culture. One reason why you might remember our tribe is because we are one of the main Amerindian (native) groups that still remain in the rainforest. What rainforest is that? The rainforest that we habitat is located around the Amazon River in Brazil. A particular cultural aspect that is significant to us is our ability to become fierce warriors. We would raid enemy tribes, but sometimes we would also fight among ourselves. Lastly, we are a tribe of resilience and honor. We resisted assimilation in the end; the dominant culture would never convince us to follow their ways.

Yes, we resisted assimilation, but many other dangers threaten, and did threaten our culture. For example, logging and mining have proved themselves to be hazardous to our people's lives. To add to that, when other cultures agricultural activities spread into our jungle land, it would wipe out properties and harvest. For thousands of years, tribes such as ours have taken the time to balance humans, plants, and animals throughout our homeland. So, as long as we remain a tribe, we will keep working on maintaining that delicate and intricate balance.

Mission, Vision, and Values

Mission: The iCross-Cultural Citizen Project is a cultural anthropology course-based project meant to raise critical consciousness about the rich cultural diversity in our world. Being totally aware of the limitations of being outsiders, we are a group of multidisciplinary undergraduate students who believe in cross-cultural sensitivity and participatory agency aimed at disseminating information about indigenous realities as accurately as possible.

Vision: The iCross-Cultural Citizen Project’s vision is to create an online cross-cultural space for students, professionals, and youth to learn and exchange cross-culturally sensitive information about contemporary indigenous experiences. From that outsider student’s perspective, we will try to theoretically explore possible collaborative solutions to problems that affect the indigenous populations of our planet. Finally, we hope for the future creation of a space where indigenous youth can share their experiences and their realities with us for real mutual collaboration to take place.

 We value the maximization of benefits to indigenous peoples and other Vulnerable populations in the world.
 We value the respect for persons all over the world.
 We value the equal treatment of people, and we are against the exploitation of Vulnerable groups around the world.
